Thoughts on Anna Nicole Smith

I have exactly two of them:

1. Why should I care? Not to be cold, but people die every day. Most of these deaths affect at least one person in profound ways. What impact does this complete stranger’s death have on my life? None whatsoever. She isn’t a family member, she isn’t a friend. Anna Nicole Smith died. End of story.
2. Because I’m not following this “story” at all, I feel incredibly left out on the pop culture references du jour. Not that it matters, but I kept having to ask my wife for explanations during Saturday Night Live this weekend. I heard the setup, then I heard people laugh and I thought, “a-ha; that must be the punch line.” In other words, it was like a sitcom.

Anyway, I’m sure her death affects some people in genuine ways. I wish them well. Everyone else probably should get out of their business. But with so much money at stake, you know they won’t.
