By all rights I should be sick of the New Pornographers by now. Their CD is, after all, the only thing playing in my car these days. But each time I think I’m over them, I hear something in one of their songs that I hadn’t noticed before.
When I fall in love with a band, or an album, I always check to see who makes up the production team. Often I find myself drawn to a particular producer for the way he or she draws out sound.
One of the people behind the New Pornographers’ Twin Cinema is Howard Redekopp. Turns out he also co-produced one of my other favorite albums of 2005, Tegan and Sara’s So Jealous, about which I would have gushed incoherently at the time had I been writing this blog.
So I started going through Redekopp’s list of production credits and listened to a few cuts. And I discovered a couple new bands that I think I might like:
Also, I found live audio of the New Pornographers and video of Tegan and Sara in studio at San Diego’s own FM 94.9. The former were having problems with their monitors but still sounded great. The latter did, among other things, a nice cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark.”
