Microphone Setup
Took about an hour, a few choice words, and some help from my wife, but the $30 mic stand I bought from Best Buy is now operational. Once that was set up, I plugged my SM-58 into the PS5 via the Radio Shack Audio Adapter (model 274-016).
The adapter “matches low-impedance mic with XLR connector to high-impedance input with 1/4″ (6.35mm) phone jack.” It runs $15-20 and is a very handy part. HomeRecording.com gives a detailed description of why you need this piece of equipment.
Next I fired up the PS5 and after flipping a few switches (and, yes, consulting the manual), I was able to record vocals. My first impression is that the quality will be much better than that of the vocals I’ve recorded using the PS5’s built-in headset mic.
Which means I’ll need to find another excuse. ![]()
